This September is Threatened Species Month and the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife (FNPW) has started a drive to help raise money for our local Koala habitat restoration.
Did you know that our koalas need to select the right tree at the right time in the right place - they're quite picky creatures! Knowing which trees that Koalas select is the key to sustaining Koala populations in natural and rural landscapes.
Recently researchers have discovered a population in Gunnedah on the Liverpool Plains in the northwest of NSW who are bucking the statewide trend which shows a decline in numbers - in fact these koalas are doing so well, scientists are eager to pinpoint exactly what it is about this area that allows the population to flourish so that they can use these principles across the state.
